El Dorado citizens are encouraged to recycle using our convenient curbside program. Place your recycling materials in the clear City of El Dorado bags provided to you and place curbside on the day of your regularly scheduled trash pickup. Yearly delivery of clear recycling bags will be made right to your doorstep in March (100 bags at each delivery).
Please sort recycling by the following 2 categories:
Out of City of El Dorado recycling bags? Stop by the City offices at 220 E. 1st Street to purchase a roll of 50 bags for $5.00.
Recycling Center: With flexible, convenient hours and drive thru service don't let your recycling pile up. Address: 222 E. Locust (drive thru located on the west side, access from south Vine St.). Guidelines at left.
- Special Note: Recycle your unwanted phone books year round at our center.
Composting Center: Open 7 days a week, residents may dispose of yard waste and then pick up compost and mulch for their yards all in one trip. Guidelines and information at left.
Our on-going commitment to recycling and composting programs is reflected in our desire to help local school children learn the importance of these initiatives in their everyday lives. The City of El Dorado is willing to partner with local classrooms to further educate our children in various methods of recycling, composting and conserving natural resources.

Funded through a Kansas Department of Health and Environment Solid Waste Competitive Plan Implementation Grant in 1999. The project took a little over a year to complete and was one of the first in the state. The final touches were put on when the five local elementary schools helped construct and fill flower beds in the first section of the project.
The City of El Dorado Recycling Center is the largest in Butler County. We have a full staff to assist customers as they bring their recyclable materials to the center and staff that works independently on the collection, sorting and processing of materials brought in through our Curbside Recycling Program.
The City of El Dorado also has contracted with Butler County to provide a recycling opportunity for many of the neighboring Butler County communities.
The recycling initiative has exceeded our expectations and will only continue to grow. We have just completed a large addition to our center and invite you to come and tour the site. We are always happy to talk with you and show off our center.
