The City of El Dorado owns three development areas.
The El Dorado Industrial Park, located adjacent to the Kansas Turnpike (I-35) on the northwestern edge of the city, has prime building sites available and ready for construction. The Union Pacific branch line from Wichita runs along the south end of the industrial park.
El Dorado Business/Office Park, is home to a newly constructed Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites, Flinthills Services and Natural Pet Care Center. It is located at the intersection of 4-lane highways 254 and the Kansas Turnpike (I-35) on the west edge of town. Prime sites are available. The location is ideal for restaurants, lodging, office space, retail and/or service-related businesses.
Oil Hill Industrial Park located on the west edge of El Dorado is a 100+/- acre site with the potential for rail service. The site is nestled along the north side of KS HWY 254, just east of KS HWY 96 and just west of the Kansas Turnpike. It is truly a prime location.

WATER: The City of El Dorado is unique in that it is the only city in the State of Kansas to contract directly with the Corps of Engineers for its raw water supply, El Dorado Reservoir. The City holds sole ownership of all water to be used for the public water supply. El Dorado has an abundant capacity to provide water to business customers in the El Dorado community.
El Dorado, Inc. serves as the economic development arm of the City of El Dorado. The organization is a public/private partnership with the City and is responsible to market the available City owned property.

LOCATION: El Dorado, Kansas the county seat of Butler County, is located on the Kansas Turnpike (I-35), just 25 minutes northeast of Wichita. It is served by U.S. Highways 54 and 77 as well as Kansas Highways 400, 196 and 254. Highway 254, a 4-lane highway, provides an excellent connection between El Dorado and Wichita. This access to major highways makes El Dorado an ideal location for moving freight by truck. El Dorado has next day delivery to Dallas, Denver, Kansas City, Omaha, St. Louis and other major cities in the United States.
RAIL: The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad provide rail service in El Dorado, Kansas. The Union Pacific branch line from Wichita provides the opportunity to spur from their line. Currently they offer weekly service to customers in El Dorado, Kansas. The BNSF mainline runs through El Dorado. A new transload facility operated by Savage Services is "OPEN FOR BUSINESS". The facility serves the needs of Holly-Frontier Refinery in El Dorado, Kansas and has the capacity to serve additional business clients needing transload services.
El Dorado is home to Butler Community College, the second largest community college in the State of Kansas. The Center for Workforce and Professional Advancement at BCC offers customized training opportunities for employers in our area. They are an excellent resourse for KIT and KIR state training grant. We have workforce....there are 428,140 people 16 years and older located within a 40 mile radius of El Dorado. Because of the convenient transportation patterns to El Dorado, it is not uncommon to see people commute to El Dorado for good job opportunities. We draw strongly from the east into Greenwood County and often individuals commute from Wichita and the surrounding area. Sometimes it is quicker to drive to El Dorado to work than across a larger community like Wichita!
