About El Dorado

El Dorado is a progressive, economically diverse community located on the edge of the beautiful Flint Hills in south central Kansas where tourism thrives. From fine art museums and galleries and antiques, to respected schools, medical facilities and outstanding indoor and outdoor recreational opportunities, El Dorado has much to offer.

El Dorado is served by three four-lane highways as well as both Union Pacific and BNSF rail systems. El Dorado Reservoir provides abundant water for residential use, industry and recreation.

The City of El Dorado takes pride in providing high quality services and amenities to its citizens and in helping business and industry thrive. We invite you to visit our city where we enjoy the "Fine Art of Living Well".

Our Water

The City of El Dorado is unique in that it is the only city in the State of Kansas to contract directly with the Corps of Engineers for its raw water supply, El Dorado Reservoir. The City holds sole ownership of all water storage.   This water resource gives the City a virtually unlimited quantity of water to support the needs of the Community.  El Dorado's water has been voted "The Best Tasting Water in Kansas".

Award-Winning Facility

The City has the only waste water treatment facility in the state that incorporates a wetlands ecosystem. In 2008, this facility was awarded the National Project of the Year Award in the Environmental Category by the American Public Works Association.
