Fossil to Fuel Summer Camp

Price: $60 Registration, $50 for members, Ages 9-11 yrs
Hands on activities enhance the science behind oil discovery and the history of the oil fields here in Kansas, especially Butler County. Students will learn the role geology played in the decision of where to drill. They will learn about the inland sea that covered Kansas and how the sediment left behind created rock formations that led to the discovery of oil. A field trip to the refinery is planned.

Hands on activities and access to collections and living history interpreters will enhance the colorful history of Butler County. Students will learn how the ranching, farming and oil industries were integral in the development of Butler County. They will learn what makes the Flint Hills so unique and find out how they got their name.

This community-wide exhibit features the memories of the public from their very own school days. Supplemented by the museum collections, exhibit will feature archives, photos, textiles and objects from local schools in the county from throughout the 20th century.
