Glad to be in El Dorado
Rod Seel lived most of his life in the Topeka area before coming to El Dorado about three years ago to become the new Director of the Coutts Museum of Art. Rod is retired from an accomplished career in graphic design, and as a partner in Jones, Seel & Huyett Advertising in Topeka. He still has family in Topeka and two beautiful twin granddaughters that have the key to his heart and keep him on his toes. He stays very busy as he is also on the Chamber of Commerce board and volunteers by speaking to Civic groups.
As Director of Coutts, Rod meets a lot of people in the community including visitors that come in to enjoy the museum, people that attend the many special events held at the Coutts of just the public in general, and he enjoys meeting each and every one of them. He likes downtown El Dorado, all the great shops, places to eat and things to do. There are lots to do on First Fridays!
Always find time for some R &R!
To relax and take in the outdoors, he enjoys walking or riding on the bike path that can take one from downtown all the way out to the lake. He finds pleasure in taking friends and family to the Coutts to enjoy the 1,500 objects of art, including original paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings.
Although he admits, he’s not much of a shopper, he does enjoy the variety of shops downtown when looking for that special gift or item. There is much to do in El Dorado to full your days wand evenings with entertainment. Rod particularly enjoyed going to the Iron Horse Concert Hall and listening to the variety of performers each Saturday evening. During his lunch hour, he likes to take in the Brown Bag Concerts at the Coutts. For fun in the summer, Rod recommends Frontier Western Celebration and all the related events.
Coffee Breaks or Dinner out on the town
The coffee shops in town are another place Rod likes to go to ‘hang out’ with friends as they sit and visit. For lunch or dinner out on the town, Jacob’s Well, Fiesta Mexicana or Suzie’s Chili Parlor are just a few of his favorite places to grab a bite to eat. You might also find him at the ball games as he watches the El Dorado Bronco’s bringing it on around to home plate!!
Rod hopes community members appreciate all of the amenities available in this fine city. There are so many fun things to see, places to go and things to do here in El Dorado!
